Seriti Coal is a 91% black-owned South African mining company owned by Thebe Investments, Masimong Group, Community Investment Holdings, and Zungu Investments. The company was established in 2017 through the acquisition of the New Vaal, Kriel, and New Denmark mines from Anglo American. In June 2021, Seriti also acquired South Africa Energy Coal (SAEC) with the goal of modernizing the coal industry and providing reliable, transformative, and sustainable energy for South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and international export markets.

Seriti’s objective is to become the leading supplier of coal and related products in the country. To achieve this, the company has implemented various initiatives, including the Engineering Learnership program.

The Seriti Engineering Learnership 2023 is a program based at Seriti Power, Pegasus in Mpumalanga. The main goal of this learnership is to train and develop individuals as skilled artisans in the following trades:

  • Diesel Mechanic
  • Electrician
  • Plater / Welder
  • Fitter

Who should apply?

To be considered for the Seriti Engineering Learnership 2023, applicants must meet the following basic eligibility criteria:

  • Completed Grade 12 with a minimum of an E symbol in Mathematics (not Mathematical literacy) and Science, as well as N2 trade subjects, or an N2 certification with four trade-related subjects.
  • Specific trade-related subjects must be met for each field:
    • Diesel Mechanic: Engineering Science, Mathematics, Engineering Drawing, or Diesel/Motor Trade Theory.
    • Electrician: Mathematics, Industrial Electronics, Engineering Science, Electrical Trade Theory.
    • Plater/Welder: Engineering Science, Mathematics, Plater’s Theory, Structural Steel Drawing.
    • Fitter: Engineering Science, Mathematics, Engineering Drawing, Fitting/Machining Theory.
  • No subjects with F symbols.
  • Willing to undergo a psychometric assessment.
  • Willing to work on a shifting schedule and be on-call when needed.
  • Innovative, proactive and comfortable working under pressure.
  • Holds a valid provincial driver’s license (K53).
  • Holds, or able to acquire a certificate of fitness.
  • No criminal record.
  • Preferably have relevant experience in the mining industry and local to the area.
